If you’re fascinated by RC vehicles but cars and helicopters just don’t do it for you, why not consider checking out RC tanks instead?
Think about it. You could be in control of a vehicle that has full military-style features such as tail lights, headlights, a machine gun, realistic tracks, a full suspension, a recoil function and a motorized turret – definitely much cooler than some of the other RC vehicles out there.
Although a fully kitted out RC boat or a top of the line remote control truck certainly has something to offer, there is just something special about an RC tank.
However, before you run out to the nearest store and buy the first RC tank you lay your eyes on, there are several things to consider.
RC tanks can vary from basic and built for beginners to more advanced vehicles that make you feel as though you could be fighting on the battlefield.
Think about your goals and what you’re looking to get out of the tank first. And to give you even more of a hand with making the right decision I’ve also set out below my recommendations for the top RC tanks, broken down by categories.

1. Value for money.
Although some RC tanks will drain your wallet and can cost hundreds of dollars, if you’re searching for a solid vehicle that won’t empty your bank account, look no further than the German Tiger I Battle Tank R/C 1:24 Airsoft Metal Cannon Model Heavy Panzer with Sound – Desert Camouflage.

This German Tiger Battle Tank shoots 6mm BB bullets and simulates both cannon and engine sounds!
You will also find that when you fire the cannons, that as well as firing sounds there is also a recoil action which definitely adds to the authenticity of the vehicle.
You can load as many as 20 bullets into the tank and control the vehicle from up to 30 feet.
However, because this tank is so realistic, it may not be suited for young children and is better used by those over the age of 14.
Still, with a maximum firing range of nine feet, a 300-degree rotating turret, about 20 minutes running time per charge and the ability to move backward, forward and spin around, you won’t find a better RC tank for the money!
2. If you want a great tank for kids.
Although most RC tanks are meant for adolescents and adults, there are several that may appeal to young children.
The Infra-red Laser Battle Tank Set, for example, comes with a camouflage body and infrared turrets that shoot beams instead of BB bullets.

This is also an ideal product because it comes with two RC tanks so that your child can challenge someone to a ‘virtual’ tank battle. Once one tank hits the other with its infrared beam, the “damaged” tank is disabled and flashes lights to signify that it is out of commission.
Also, this battle tank features a turret that can rise up 30 degrees and horizontally turn 300 degrees so that you have precise aiming and shooting capabilities.
It can also climb slopes up to 30 degrees and can move backward, forward, right and left. Its speed maxes out between five to 10 miles per hour, but it’s realistic sounds and lights can definitely provide hours of endless entertainment to kids and adults alike.
3. If you want something that is just awesome fun.
If you’re looking for an overall good time, the Radio Controlled 1:24th Scale MLRS Multiple Launch Rocket System delivers just that.
This is not just an ordinary tank but rather a realistic looking armoured mobile rocket launching platform!
The combination of RC action and infra-red ‘Battle Beam’ technology in this tank lets you challenge and hopefully conquer opponents from near and far!
When you fire on other tanks, you will notice that your vehicle recoils each time you shoot. There are many dramatic, realistic sound effects as well as working lights that will illuminate any dark combat zone in which you should find yourself.
What’s also nice about this tank is that it comes with a target board so that you can practice up before heading into combat!
What’s also fun about this tank is that you can lower, raise and rotate the launcher platform, providing you with optimum aiming and shooting capabilities.
It also features responsive controls and authentic driving movement!
4. If you want something cheap but which still gives an authentic experience.
Let’s say you’re interested in RC tanks but aren’t quite ready to shell out hundreds of dollars without first testing the battlefield.
Your best bet here is to look into an inexpensive RC tank such as the 1:30 Scale Remote Control RC M4A3 Sherman Tank to see if this is the right hobby for you.
This tank is based off of the M4 Sherman used in Normandy in 1944.
You can still have a realistic experience, thanks to its spring-suspension road wheels and rubber treads. Obstacles and an uneven battleground are no match for this vehicle.
To add even more value, this particular tank comes with a charger and you can in fact recharge the battery without having to worry about the hassle of taking it out of the tank.
It also features working headlights and a detailed paint job. With a superb range of 75 feet (which is pretty impressive for a vehicle of this price!), you can test this vehicle from both near and far to get a complete feel for its RC capabilities.
5. If you want something that really looks like the real thing.
If you’re willing to spend a little extra on your RC tank hobby and want a realistic-looking product, the 1/16 German Tiger Air Soft RC Battle Tank may just fit the bill!

It features a turret that can turn up to 320 degrees and a gun that can move up to 30 degrees.
This tank also has the capability to climb hills as steep as 35 degrees and boasts engine, cannon and machine gun sounds for a fully authentic experience.
It also looks just like a real tank as it is a fully-painted replica of the real life German Tiger Tank.
As an added bonus its main gun can fire BB bullets a really decent distance too!
However, not only does this tank look like the real thing, but it also moves like the real thing as well.
You can drive backward, forward and turn, so you’re definitely getting an excellent vehicle for the money you spend.
If you want an introduction to bigger and larger scale RC tanks, then you absolutely have to give this tank a try!
