Remote control models have been a huge hit with kids and those who are kids at heart for decades, and the same rings true for RC battleships.
While RC warships and battleships are primarily geared towards younger audiences, they make fun toys for big boys as well.
Putting together a model boat, car, plane, or anything else from scratch can be a fun hobby in its own right, but most model battleships are designed to be placed on a shelf and looked at, not used in the water or played with.
However, a remote control battleship can provide the best of both worlds.
Designed For Use
Despite being built with tremendous attention to detail in order to remarkably resemble the real thing, today’s RC battle ships are designed to actually be put to use too.
Not only do they have working electronic motors and propellers that can power them through the water, but they have well-sealed, leak-proof designs to prevent sinking as well.
Plus, MANY feature pumps, cannons that shoot, and much more to give you a realistic taste of true battleship combat.
What To Look For
Unfortunately, finding great RC battleships for sale and choosing the right one for you is not always easy.
This is especially true if you’ve never shopped for remote control boats before.
You need to know what features to look for to avoid wasting both your time and money.
The good news is you’re in the right place.
From super fun to fully fortified RC battleships, there are a ton of options out there.
Keep reading to learn more about these awesome ‘toys’ and discover my top five picks.

|FMT 29-Inch Remote Control US Navy Amphibious Assault Battleship|
If you’re searching for a great remote control battleship, you honestly can’t go wrong with the German Bismarck Military Battleship.
The original was made famous during World War II and played an integral role in many open water conflicts with US and British destroyers.
So, it’s not surprising that this famous German battleship is one of the most popular RC battleships on the market today.
The RC German Bismarck Military Battleship has a ton of great features that help it stand out from the pack.
Great Operating Range And Run Time
Aside from its wonderfully realistic design, one of these features is its generous operating range.
Unlike many other RC boats and RC battleships that shoot, it can operate up to 120 feet, which is considerably further than many other RC warships.
The running time on the German Bismarck is also nothing to scoff at. On a fully charged battery, you can run it for up to 30 minutes.
Of course, its run time depends on how hard you push it.
However, even if you go full throttle, it will run for at least 15 minutes which is not too shabby at all.
That being said, aside from its realistic appearance, the best feature of this RC battle ship is its motor.
Put simply, it runs great! Not only is it a fast mover, but it is fully directional and can run in all directions.
This is something not all RC battleships can do. It also has dual propellers for added speed and maneuverability.
In addition to using the joystick to turn, you can decrease the power on either one of the propellers to turn sharply left or right.
Ready To Run
Perhaps my favorite aspect of the German Bismark Military Battleship is the fact that it’s ready to run right out of the box.
You read that right. There’s absolutely no assembly required.
How cool is that?
You can save yourself hours of frustration and see it in action right away.
Once again, this is a unique feature not found with other RC combat battleships for sale. If you’re an impatient captain, this is the right battleship model for you.
As far as drawbacks go, they are few and far between with the Bismarck. However, there are a couple worth mentioning.
One of them is the ship’s plasticky build. While all electric RC vehicles are made of plastic, it’s easy to see how an overly boisterous child can wreak havoc on this ship.
Needless to say, a little supervision is a good idea if you want what’s good for your ship.
Another downside of this German Bismarck Military Battleship is its historical incorrectness. Sure, it looks great, but it’s not an exact replica of the original.
For most users, this isn’t a big deal. However, if you want a historically accurate ship for display or educational purposes, you would want to choose another option.
- Ready to run
- Glossy finish
- Nicely detailed
- Runs great
- Fully directional
- Easy to manoeuvre and control
- Long operating range
- A little on the heavy side
- Easy to break
- Not exactly historically accurate
“Very Popular and Runs Great”
Next up on the list is the Smasher Destroyer RC HT-2879 War Ship.
This equally impressive 31-inch military battleship is incredibly detailed and one of the most historically accurate RC battleships being made today.
In fact, unlike other remote control warships that are not historically accurate replicas of real warships, this great little boat is a very realistic scaled down replica of a Russian Sovremenny Class (Type 956) Destroyer.
With so much detail, the Smasher Destroyer Battleship Warship RC looks like it belongs in a case as a decoration piece.
While you could do exactly that and admire every detail and nook and cranny, it’s also a fully functional RC boat as well.
It isn’t one of the fastest RC warships for sale, but its electronic motor and servos allow it to reach speeds of up to 10 mph on calm waters, which is pretty fast for a large replica battleship.
Like the German Bismarck and other top-notch RC battleships that shoot, the Smasher Destroyer is also easy to operate and fully maneuverable.
Not only can it move forward and turn smoothly to the left and right, but it also reverses. That’s right; it will go virtually anywhere!
In addition to providing the Smasher Destroyer with added maneuverability, its dual propellers give it plenty of power to trudge through pools, ponds, lakes, and rivers.
For the price, I’d say it’s a pretty impressive feature.
Speaking of impressive features, unlike many other RC battleships, the Smasher Destroyer has a unique safety option that turns the motor off or doesn’t allow it to turn on when it is out of the water.
This is great for keeping kiddos safe when playing with it.
Other nice features of this warship include its detailed glossy exterior paint, included model helicopter for the deck, radar tower lights, and opposing gun turrets.
Needless to say, the craftsmanship and attention to detail of this ship are top-notch.
With a 15-minute running time and an impressive 250-foot operating range, it’s simply one of the best RC warships around.
Not everyone thinks about range, but long range operation comes in quite handy when re-enacting naval battle scenes on lakes and large ponds.
Not the Fastest
On the downside, like other RC battleships that shoot, the Smasher Destroyer isn’t the fastest boat in the water.
Its size, heft, and added features make it slower than many other RC boats.
It also has the same plasticky construction as other RC models.
However, this is par for the course and it should hold up just fine as long as you avoid pesky sandbars and cannon fire from enemy ships.
- Looks and runs great
- Excellent detail
- Extra long range
- Fully directional
- Dual propellers
- Runtime could be a bit longer
- No instruction manual
- Short warranty period
“Great Design and Craftsmanship”
If you’re into large scale RC battleships, this 30-Inch RC Warship Challenger may be for you.
For a remote control battleship, it features extremely detailed design.
At 30 inches in length, eight inches in height, and six inches in width, and is a great stylised replica of a Russian Kiev class Cruiser Carrier.
How cool is that?
No Assembly Required
The best part is it’s an RC ship. So, when you’re not displaying it in a case (it’s so realistic it comes with a display stand), you can have boatloads (pun intended 😊) of fun with it out on the water.
That’s right; you can have fun with it in your pool or any nearby pond or lake.
The ship’s electronic motor and dual-propeller design gives it enough power to overcome most small chop and reach speeds of up to 10 miles or 16 kilometers per hour.
On the downside, while it comes with an RC transmitter, it has a fairly limited range of only 60 feet.
This is considerably shorter than the 250-foot range of the Smasher Destroyer or even the 120-foot range of the German Bismarck.
Nonetheless, it’s still a ton of fun and perfect for reinacting close quarter naval combat.
The good news is its rechargeable Ni-Cd battery doesn’t take long to charge. Just plug in the AC charger, enjoy a snack, and get ready for round two!
Back to the best part of the Warship Challenger – it’s detailed appearance.
Not only is it molded to be a perfect match to a real battleship, but its glossy black exterior highlights every feature.
The glossy exterior also helps make it water-resistant, which is a must for RC battleships both large and small.
While its 60-foot operating range could be better, it’s still ideal for use in swimming pools and small ponds or lakes.
In other words, for the most part , it’s perfectly suitable for recreational purposes.
Plus, it’s ready to run right out of the box. Just make sure the battery is charged, put it in the water, and have some fun!
- Exquisite exterior
- Terrific attention to detail
- Ready to run
- Large and stable
- Runs great
- Display stand included
- Short operating range
- Could be faster
“Extremely Detailed Replica”
The RC HT-2879 Destroyer Warship is large and looks like it’s in charge.
Unlike many smaller RC battleships, it measures a whopping 31 inches in length, making it one of the largest battleships in its price range even when you include RC battleships that shoot for sale .
The Destroyer Warship also looks great.
A ton of attention has been paid to make it look as realistic as possible; so much so that it would be easy to mistake it for a non RC display only model.
However, that’s obviously not the case, as you’ll soon see.
The remote control battleship features a fully functional radio controlled remote and powerful electronic motor that propel it to a serviceable 7 mph in calm, glassy waters.
That being said, its width and weight allow you to use it in choppy “seas” as well.
Like other top-quality RC warships, the HT-2879 Destroyer War Ship is also equipped with dual propellers for easy steering and added propulsion.
It comes with a 7.2v rechargeable battery pack, 9v battery for the remote controller, and an 110v battery charger adapter to keep it powered up for fun-filled open water adventure.
Speaking of open water, it also boasts an impressive operating range of 250 feet.
Did I mention it’s fully assembled and ready to run right out of the box as well? It sure is!
With so much to offer, it’s hard not to like this RC Navy Destroyer War Ship.
If you’ve been comparing RC battleships that shoot hoping to find the perfect one, this one won’t let you down at all.
- Great value
- Terrific attention to detail
- Fast despite large size
- Looks great on the water or in a display
- No instruction manual
- Remote could be better
- A bit fragile
“Great Value and Performance”
Last but not least, we come to one of my personal favorites: the FMT US Navy Amphibious Assault Battleship.
It’s not the largest remote control battleship out there, but it’s the lead ship of its class for several reasons.
First of all, it’s one of the only RC battleships with a landing helicopter dock, or LHD.
The original Wasp-class Amphibious Assault Battleship was the first ship to accommodate the operation of these wartime vehicles, and this toy battleship does a great job of replicating it.
Aside from its unique design, this RC replica has a fully functional 2.4Ghz radio remote control with spread spectrum technology for long range operation, fast reaction time, less interference, and reduced power consumption.
In fact, unlike many of today’s RC warships and battleship boats with limited ranges of 150 feet or less, you can operate it up to 250 feet away.
If that wasn’t all impressive enough, it has one of the longest run times on the market. It can stay out on the water for almost half an hour before needing a recharge.
Talk about cool!
Easy To Control
Of course, like other great RC battleships that shoot for top performance featured on this list, it also comes equipped with a dual propeller for easy maneuvering to left, right, front, and back.
Plus, it features a vector-push design for even better maneuverability and metal shafts for added durability.
All in all, there’s a lot to like about the FMT US Navy Amphibious Assault Battleship, making it one of the best RC battleships around and the perfect choice to round out this list.
- Extremely detailed
- Easy to use
- Fantastic range
- Long running time
- Lots of helicopters and other fun goodies on deck
- Not the fastest RC battleship around
- A little heavy in the front
- Could be more stable
“Very Durable and Versatile”
