From 2 or 3 channels all the way up to 6 channels and beyond, there are remote helicopters for noobs and seasoned pilots alike. While a 3 or 4 channel RC heli is fine if you’re just starting out, most RC helicopter enthusiasts prefer a 6 channel RC helicopter for its added power and ability to pull off tricks and amazing aerial displays!
Just like with other areas in RC hobbies, you often find that if you want to step up the challenges of driving a top line RC boat, or racing a speedy remote control monster truck, at some stage you really do have to upgrade the underlying technology you’re making use of.
Although you can use a good 4 channel RC helicopter to perform many maneuvers, adding two extra channels will open up a new dimension of flying adventure. However, with added maneuverability and performance comes added challenges, so be prepared to suffer a crash or two while mastering any 6ch RC helicopter.
With a 6 channel RC helicopter, the first four channels are identical to those of a 4 channel heli. However, the fifth and sixth channels provide extra flying attributes.
Unlike a 3 or 4 channel RC heli with a fixed pitch, a 6ch RC helicopter has a collective pitch controlled by a fifth channel, allowing you to control the pitch angle of the heli’s blades and perform loops or fly upside down. Meanwhile, the sixth channel acts as an optional channel of sorts, allowing you to use it to control the engine’s fuel and air mixture or the on-board gyro.
If you really want to take your RC flying fun to the next level, a 6 channel RC helicopter is a must, but which one should you choose?
Rather than seeing you become the latest victim of a sales pitch, here are my five top picks for the best 6 channel remote helicopters available today!

1. Top Race TR-808 Mini 6 Channel 3D Stunt RC Helicopter RTF
What it lacks in size, the Top Race TR-808 certainly makes up for in performance. As the first mini 6 channel stunt RTF RC heli for both indoor and outdoor use, this impressive little 6 channel RC helicopter can just about do anything you want it to. That is, after a little practice of course!
Featuring a 3-axis gyro, durable and balanced flybarless design, electronic control system, and automatic flight correction, this modestly priced 6 channel 3D stunt heli is one of the best RC helicopters around.
If it’s a nice day, take it out for some high flying aerial fun! If rain clouds and wind gusts are on the horizon, bring the tiny stunt copter indoors for living room loops and bedroom barrel rolls!
The Top Race TR-808 has everything you need to become an aerial acrobat and the envy of all your pals, so if you want the best remote helicopter of the 6 channel variety, this little monster of a mini may be just what you’re looking for.
2. Heli-Max Axe 100 CP Flybarless SLT Tx-R RC Helicopter
Arguably one of the most innovative RC helicopters on the market, the Heli-Max Axe 100 CP has an array of powerful features that make it capable of fully aerobatic flight both indoors and out.
Featuring a flybarless design, triple-axis gyro stabilization, collective pitch rotor head, encased micro rotary drive servos, and advanced electronics, the Heli-Max Axe 100 CP provides superior 3D flying.
However, the best part about this 6 channel RC helicopter is its Tx-R technology, which means you can use your own flight transmitter that’s set-up just the way you like it!
With so many high-performance features, you’d think this RC heli would be expensive or difficult to fly, but the Axe 100 CP is very stable and one of the most inexpensive 6 channel remote helicopters available.
Overall, it’s a solid choice if you’re looking for the best radio controlled helicopter on a limited budget.
3. Hausler 450 SE V2 RTF Electric RC Helicopter
If you’re an experienced RC heli pilot and want to take your flying to the next level, then you may have considered moving up to a 450 class helicopter. If so, the Hausler 450 SE V2 is a terrific option.

This big and powerful 6c RC helicopter provides tremendous value for the money. With it, you receive a 450 size 6 channel collective pitch heli with a 6 channel transmitter and receiver, three digital servos, digital tail servo, high-quality LiPo battery, battery charger power supply, balance battery charger, and a plastic canopy.
However, the best thing about this popular Hausler model is that 80 percent of its components are made from high-precision, rigid aluminum alloy, which provides a testament to its quality craftsmanship. It even features a CNC machined tail unit, auto-rotation system, and a belt-driven rotor!
Although it’s a wonderfully constructed performance RC heli, it’s far from being a toy. It will take a little practice and fine-tuning to get it dialed in just the way you like it, but with a little patience comes huge rewards.
4. Walkera Mini CP 6 Channel Helicopter Ready to Fly RC
Walkera is known for making some of the best RC helicopters available, and it’s Mini CP is no exception. Providing pilots with an agile, powerful, and more than capable collective pitch heli, the Walker Mini CP is a guaranteed good time both indoors and out.
With a powerful Devo 7 transmitter as the helicopters remote control, the Mini CP allows you to program specific flight parameters according to your unique needs. Meanwhile its three micro servos provide enough speed and torque to pull off almost any aerial maneuver imaginable.
Since crashing a high-performance 6ch RC helicopter is a given, even for experienced pilots, Walkera decided to utilize a single-piece frame design, allowing you to easily separate the landing skids from the frame to conveniently make any necessary repairs.
It seems they thought of everything when making this little flying beast, which makes it arguably one of the best RC helicopters you could buy for the price.
5. WL Toys 6 Channel V922 3D Outdoor RC Mini Helicopter
Strong, stable, feature-packed, and easy to maintain, this popular 6ch RC helicopter provides you with a terrific training model to practice your 3D flying skills!

As the larger cousin to the wildly popular WL Toys V911, the V922 has everything you need, such as automatic flight correction and an LCD transmitter screen, to take your flying skills to the next level. Honestly, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better overall heli to learn 3D flying with than the V922.
Similar in appearance to the V911, but larger, more powerful, and equipped with many extra features, when it comes to 6 channel helicopters the V922 is one of the best RC helicopters available.

Can you fly a 6 channel heli like a 4 channel helicopter?
Hi Michael,
Thanks for getting in touch! With 6 channels you are definitely going to be experiencing a step up from 4 channels. A lot bigger than the step up form say 3 to 4 channels.
The possibilities in terms of maneuverability with 6 channels are significantly more increased and more ‘life like’ but that does mean that it takes more skill to even just operate the copter in fairly normal flight. With a 6 channel copter you have even great control over left and right movement and also the angle of flight in terms of nose up and nose down. Put this all together and you can imagine how it dramatically increases what you can do with your copter BUT also what you have to generally be across and in control of when you’re flying it.
If you’re keen the step up to 6 channels will be hugely rewarding over the longer term but you do have to expect a bit of time to really get the hang of it.
Hope that helps!
