What does ‘My RCtopia’ mean? – RCtopia is (meant to be 🙂 ) a ‘clever’ play on the word ‘utopia’.
When I was 11 years old I got a Tamiya Hot Shot II 4WD Buggy. I can still remember how blown away I was by what this car could do. The speed, the realistic body work.
As an 11 year old kid it gave me a sense of freedom and also ironically responsibility. I can remember spending hours cleaning it and with my limited knowledge (and budget!) trying to upgrade it.
I’m now (relatively) grown up with kids of my own and although the Hot Shot II is long gone my son has recently got to an age where he has started to get interested in remote control toys.
Wanting to relive the ‘glory days’ of the Hot Shot II I was pretty keen to find out what I could about RC Cars today and amazed at the range and (unfortunately varying!) quality of what’s on offer today that is where the idea for this website came from. Basically to help other people find the best RC toy or vehicle for them without having to spend all the time I did in getting back up to speed with what is out there on the market these days.
The website is all about helping you navigate the myriad of products on the market today when it comes to RC toys and vehicles as well as the technology associated with them. And despite my first love for the 4WD Buggy’s (I am after all a child of the 80’s 🙂 ) this website certainly doesn’t stop there.
When I started researching RC cars I was amazed at the variety of vehicles and toys on the market and so with my enthusiasm fired up for all things RC again I’ve decided to build this site out over time to also include as many other types of RC toys and vehicles as I can.
I’m hoping this site will also eventually include some modern twists on the the traditional RC space with the huge number of new toys, vehicles and gadgets coming onto the market these days that are specifically designed to be controlled from your iPhone, mobile phone or other tablet.
So whether you’re looking for details on the best RC cars, helicopters or other vehicles out there or even just want some basic facts clarified (like what does RC actually stand for? And what is the real difference between a remote control and radio controlled device?) I hope you’ll find what your looking for here. And of course feel free to get in touch or leave your comments on the site!
And just one more thing. This site does have some links that are ‘affiliate links’. This means that we get a small amount of commission if you end up buying a product after clicking through on one of those links. All of this helps with the running costs of this site, so if you like something you see buying through one of our links will help us keep on providing and expanding this site!
Thanks for stopping by!
